Membership, plans increasing for Greene Chamber By Jay Crawford STANARDSVILLE (June 2006) - Membership and future plans continue to grow for the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, which has continued to increase its pace since it was reorganized nearly one year ago. Membership is climbing near 60 with the recent addition of Fried Companies Inc., Greene County Transit, Stone Hill Services and Winslow Cottages, and four dates have been set for future activities, according to a report from treasurer Gray King during the most recent meeting of the Chamber's Board of Directors. Three "networking breakfasts," all of which are held 7-8 a.m. at The Lafayette Inn in Stanardsville, are included in the events scheduled for the upcoming months. The first will be held July 5, when guest speaker Tom Zakielarz, past president and current member of the Chamber's Board of Directors, will have the opportunity to discuss the Greene House Shops and Real Estate III. The following networking breakfasts will be held August 2, when Trish Crow and Neil Williamson will be the guest speakers, and September 6, when Pauline Hovey will speak. Also underway is planning for the next quarterly members-and-guests event at Stone Mountain Vineyards. Additional details about times and dates will be announced at a later date. Also during the June meeting of the Board, the Chamber directors: * Listened to a presentation by Trish Crow, of Art Studio and Legacy of the Land, a preservation facet of the land advocacy, who spoke about a statewide tour she is conducting with photos including some taken from Greene County. Alan Pyles, president of the Chamber Board and owner of The Lafayette, announced that his business would be hosting the tour during the month of September. * Heard a request from Neil Williamson for Chamber involvement in the "Discover Virginia" event to be held Sept. 2, 2006, at the Battlefield location off of U.S. 33. * Accepted an offer from Beth Vanda and Cheryl Martino, who will be working together to link the Chamber's new website - www.greenecoc.org - to as many appropriate sites as possible. * Learned that "Welcome Baskets," baskets that will be given to new Greene County residents that will include giveaways and offers from Chamber members, are expected to be ready for distribution by the end of summer. King and Zakielarz are coordinating the effort. |
