Groundbreakings in Greene
Earthmovers have been busy in the past few weeks as both CVS and Goodwill broke ground for their new facilities in Ruckersville. Both businesses plan to be open by the Spring. The EDA is thrilled to have so much development happening in Ruckersville. Walmart is also still on track for a Spring opening, so look out for lots of ribbon cutting next year.
New Tourism Initiatives
This is an exciting time for tourism in Greene County! In August, the Greene County Visitor Center moved from Spotswood Trail to its new location on US 29 South in Ruckersville. Located in an inviting yellow cottage next to the Blue Ridge Café, it is the first Visitor Center in the surrounding counties to be on Rt. 29. Locals as well as visitors are welcome Wednesday through Sunday from 9am to 5pm. The Center is also still looking for volunteers to commit to one or two four-hour shifts a month. Please contact the Center for more information at 8315 Seminole Trail, Suite 2, Ruckersville, VA 22968; 434-227-4646; 434-326-5431 (fax); visitorcenter@gcva.us.
In this time of tourism growth in Greene, the Economic Development Authority is happy to have contracted with John Humphries to manage the new Visitor Center and other tourism efforts in Greene. He is a long time Greene County resident and comes to us fresh from managing the Visitor Center in Orange County. The EDA is delighted to have him as part of our team.
The EDA is also pleased to announce that John Pluta, owner of Noon Whistle Pottery, has accepted an appointment to the Greene County Tourism Council. Noon Whistle Pottery has been a wonderful addition to Downtown Stanardsville for nine years, and the EDA is honored to now have his wisdom and experience on the Tourism Council.
Lastly, the EDA office has been working hard on a comprehensive Visitor Guide for Greene County. Please click the link below to see and or print a copy of that publication. If you are a tourism business in Greene and are missing from the Guide, please contact the Economic Development office at 434-985-6663 or eda@gcva.us.
